PCORI Fee Deadline Just Around the Corne
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires health insurers and sponsors of self-funded group health plans (including health reimbursement arrangements, or HRAs) to pay a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) fee. Originally, the law provided that the PCORI fee would not be assessed for plan years ending after September 30, 2019. However, legislation passed in December 2019 extended the PCORI fee for an additional 10 years, until 2029.

COVID-19 National Emergency Ends Earlier While Public Emergency Remains in Effect
On April 10, 2023, President Biden signed into law H.J. Res. 7, which ended the National Emergency, effective immediately. The Public Emergency, though, remains in effect until May 11, 2023. The end of both declared Emergencies affects certain temporary COVID relief measures and coverage mandates that were put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic for employee benefit plans.
