Effective January 1, 2020, employers may offer to employees a new type of health reimbursement arrangement (HRA): the Individual Coverage HRA (ICHRA). Details of the ICHRA were first released in June 2019 in response to an earlier executive order in which President Trump directed the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and the Treasury to explore ways to expand access to HRAs. The ICHRA is intended to provide a meaningful alternative to traditional group health coverage.
